Grass r00ts as social network

I had never really given the term "grass roots" much thought, other than the usual media meaning of "coming up from the people." But in a conversation with some fellow KM travelers, the ideas of grassroots and social networks crossed paths quite nicely. One of my colleagues suggested the idea that our KM network is really a social network, outside the official lines of the organization hierarchy. We've all met through various networking efforts inside and outside the organization. We are working together to ensure our separate KM projects for these different organizations all end up with common terminology, so that in the golden age of KM, the projects will interlink with one another.

That's grass roots, isn't it?
[Note: sorry for the odd title, but my server doesn't like the word "roots" in the title of a file. Odd.]
