George Por turns up a beautiful word from the Zulu in the short post Evolutionary leadership, ubuntu, and the homecoming of CI.
You probably heard the Zulu word "ubuntu." It roughly translates as “the capacity to express compassion, justice, reciprocity, dignity, harmony and humanity in the interests of building, maintaining and strengthening community.” To the extent in which blogosphere manifests ubuntu, it is becoming the visible tip of an evolutionary wave.
To me this says a lot about the best ways communities operate together. Communities support their members, both for learning in the sense of the community's focus and in the growth of people as individuals. There is a force within communities that seeks harmony, and this force operates differently across communities. Sometimes harmony is in a communal need to develop knowledge, other times the force is a communal need to work together without necessarily building new knowledge.
Interesting concept.
